To get feedback from PhD candidates on the MMD programme and overall PhD education, we organized an informal meeting over coffee to address questions, comments or suggestions for improvement. The meeting held on January 16, 2024, was moderated by the Vice-Dean for Doctoral Studies (Faculty of Science) Luděk Bláha, and it was attended by 17 colleagues – members of the MMD community.
The issues discussed included, for example, the 3-month stays abroad, consideration of the European Doctorate – or International Doctorate - as another award or recognition in individual curriculum vitae, engagement of international reviewers and committee members into PhD defences etc. A significant part of the meeting was devoted to feedback on supervisors' evaluation and how to address potential serious issues with the supervisor.
The discussion brought number of inputs and ideas that will be considered and implemented.

On September 25, 2024, the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University held a traditional event supporting and informing the PhD students - MUNI SCI PhD Day 2024. The programme included a healthy breakfast, an introduction to PhD studies and a range of inspiring presentations about mobility programmes, career paths and benefits during doctoral studies.
As a part of the MMD (MUNI Mendel Doctorandus) programme, the participants (PhD candidates) have the possibility of defending in the European doctorate mode. The successful graduate will receive the valued European doctorate and the PhD diploma. But what are the requirements for such a defence? Let's take a look at the example of Mgr.
