Proposal for the assignment of a co-supervisor

In case a capable student applies under the supervision of a supervisor with a low graduation rate. In that case, the student may be admitted, but only on the condition that a co-supervisor/mentor is assigned to guarantee the supervision and successful completion of the admitted doctoral student.

Failure to meet the minimum income requirement

In the case that a student is unable to demonstrate the minimum required income, the student will indicate this in his/her application for admission to the programme. If the student is promising, an exception may be granted.

Termination during the programme

The programme is voluntary and may be voluntarily withdrawn without penalty. The student should inform the supervisor and the MMD administrator of their intention to leave the programme. The semesters during which student successfully participated in MMD will be recognized as successfully passed and they will be acknowledged (listed) in the diploma supplement. A doctoral student may also be terminated from the programme for failure to meet learning objectives.

How often is it possible to enrol in the MMD programme?

Enrolment in the programme is possible twice a year before spring or autumn semester; the exact date will be posted/updated on the MMD website.

Is it possible to combine Cotutelle with the MMD program?

Yes, this connection is highly welcome (but it should always be stated in the semester report / when applying to MMD).

I am on an internship abroad; do I have to fulfil the requirements of the MMD program?

If you are on a placement abroad, you are entirely exempt from MMD obligations. The only duty is to complete a semester report (as in every MMD semesters), which will include the information about your placement abroad (with the certificate about the placement exported from IS).

Do I have to fulfil the MMD program requirements in my last semester?

You don´t have to fulfil the MMD requirements in your last semester, i.e. during the semester when you submit your thesis. You will only apply for a defence in European (International) Doctorate format.

Is it necessary to re-enrol in XD007 every semester?

Yes, if you wish to continue in the MMD programme, you should to re-enrol into XD007 in each semester. Re-enrolment is expected after successful finishing of MMD in previous semester. This will be confirmed by awarded ECTS credits for XD007 and/or by an email from MMD administrator.

What is the relationship or conditions for theoretical State Doctoral Exam with regard to MMD?

There are no conditions or specific requirements for the theoretical State Doctoral Exam. This is fully organized by corresponding PhD programme.

How are the “other” interdisciplinary courses / trainings considered?

All (other than 4 MMD-supported (recognized) series – (i) Principal Investigator Seminars, (ii) Life Science Seminar Series, (iii) RECETOX Seminar Series, (iv) BIOTOP Seminars). To fulfil the MMD requirements on interdisciplinarity, you are requested to participate in other courses (trainings, seminars) that should be oriented on science, research or other technical expertise. We will not accept participation in activities such as foreign language lectures/classes or other purely soft skill trainings. Recetox students will not be credited for RCX seminars as they are mandatory.

What is the value of joining the MMD program for the student's supervisor?

One of the main benefits (not only for supervisors) is raising the current standards of PhD studies at MU, which supervisors themselves can actively influence through their participation in the programme.

Another advantage is, that for the PhD oral thesis defend, opponents can be invited under the auspices of the Innolec programme, which allows them to cover the costs associated with their travel to Brno. Opponents are asked to give a talk at the University, which will again contribute to interdisciplinary education and networking at MU.

What is the difference between the European Doctorate and the International MMD Certificate?

Suppose the student fulfils all the requirements set by the MMD programme, including a 3-month internship in another European country (outside CZ and SK). In that case, they are entitled to a European doctorate, which will be issued with a diploma supplement. If the student completes a foreign internship outside EU countries, they will be given an International MMD Certificate with the Diploma Supplement.
