PhD Day - The Minimum (Not Only) for a New PhD Student

On September 25, 2024, the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University held a traditional event supporting and informing the PhD students - MUNI SCI PhD Day 2024. The programme included a healthy breakfast, an introduction to PhD studies and a range of inspiring presentations about mobility programmes, career paths and benefits during doctoral studies.

Dean’s Awards 2024

Dean Tomáš Kašparovský has presented awards to the best students of the MU Faculty of Science. This year’s Dean’s Awards were presented to a total of ten laureates in the Best Student category in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme, and to eleven promising scientists in the Best Student category of the Doctoral study programme. Moreover, the award was also presented to three teams of fourteen outstanding students of the pregraduate and postgraduate programmes. Congratulations to all the winners!

Josef Vavroušek Award 2024

The Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University is announcing a public competition for student and scientific research works for the Josef Vavroušek Award devoted to various aspects of sustainability-related issues and values represented by the personality of Josef Vavroušek. Participating in the competition requires an already defended doctoral thesis and the applicant's age up to approx. 35 years. More info about the competition.

PhD Thesis Defence in European Doctorate Mode

As a part of the MMD (MUNI Mendel Doctorandus) programme, the participants (PhD candidates) have the possibility of defending in the European doctorate mode. The successful graduate will receive the valued European doctorate and the PhD diploma. But what are the requirements for such a defence? Let's take a look at the example of Mgr. Kamil Sobek is a PhD student of Geology, MU Faculty of Science.

We value opinions of doctoral candidates: MMD Coffee 2 Students

Active PhD candidates can be a part of a volunteer programme at Masaryk University that supports professional development as MUNI Mendel Doctorandus (MMD). The programme aims to broaden interdisciplinary learning among PhD students and prepare them for their future scientific careers. The programme now gathers more than 50 PhD candidates.

Martin Toul wins the Doctorandus Prize in this year’s Česká hlava Awards

This year, Martin Toul from Masaryk University’s Faculty of Science was one of the winners of the highest Czech award for scientists and their patents and discoveries, Česká hlava 2023 (Czech Mind 2023). He received the Doctorandus prize, which is awarded to young scientists for research in the natural sciences, for his work on the functions of the staphylokinase protein, which is used to treat stroke patients.

Dr. Martin Toul receives the Ministry of Education Award for outstanding students and graduates.

This year, the MU Faculty of Sciences was one of the recipients of a Ministry of Education Award in the field of higher education, science and research. Along with 10 other winners from across the Czech Republic, Dr. Martin Toul, who successfully graduated this year from the Doctoral study program in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Genetics, received the award for excellent students and graduates and for extraordinary activity by a student.
